Aberavon MP Calls for Progress on Anti-Social Behaviour
11th June 2007
Aberavon MP, Dr Hywel Francis, has called for an end to anti-social behaviour in the Aberavon Constituency, after receiving numerous complaints from residents who are becoming fearful for the safety of themselves and their property.
The recent spate of incidents culminated last week when arsonists targeted the same house in Borough Street twice within a few days, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and resulting in the evacuation of neighbouring properties.
Dr Francis said,
"Anti-social behaviour has been an issue that many residents and local councillors have approached me about in recent months, and I recently met with local Superintendent of Police, Cliff Filer, to discuss anti-social behaviour throughout the Aberavon Constituency."
"The recent arson attacks at Borough Street in the Aberavon Ward have highlighted these concerns and the need for a review to be undertaken by the agencies involved in an effort to develop a strategy to tackle the numerous problems with which local residents and communities are faced."
"I have recently met with the new Superintendent of Police, Phillip Davies, and we have agreed to work more closely and with the Local Authority to reassure constituents that everything is being done to assess and reassess anti-social behaviour throughout the Constituency."
