Community Heroes meet Prime Minister

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis recently accompanied two of his constituents to meet the Prime Minister Rt. Hon Gordon Brown MP. They were both chosen by Dr Francis because of their pioneering local environmental work.

Dr Francis said,
‘I was very pleased that Councillor Hugh James of Briton Ferry and Peter Knowles of Cwmafan were invited to 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister and Sarah Brown because of their outstanding environmental work in their communities.
Hugh is this year’s Briton Ferry Mayor and has been a leading light in the Brunel Dock Regeneration project. The Prime Minister was delighted to receive the new DVD on the project.’
‘Peter has been active in many community based activities. Most recently he has been a leading figure in the Cwmafan Residents’ Action Committee and in the Sustrans Project which will soon unveil its unique portrait bench recognizing the lives of the late Richard Burton, Rob Brydon and Dick Wagstaffe.’
