Aberavon MP attacks Chancellor’s Autumn Statement as unfair to families and women

6th December 2012

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis is critical of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement because it is unfair to families and women.

Dr Francis said,

‘The statement from the Chancellor is unacceptable and unfair when 60% of working households will be hit by cuts to benefits and tax credits and losing around £279 per year while millionaires will get an average tax cut of over £170,000.

Dr Francis added,

Women are paying the price for this government’s economic failure. This out of touch Government has failed to understand the lives of women. Research by the House of Commons Library has shown that women will bear the brunt of trying to cope with lower child benefit. George Osborne is taking more from the pockets of hard working people whilst Working Child Tax Credits are already frozen until the end of this Parliament.’
