MP welcomes Tata £800 million investment

Aberavon’s MP Dr Hywel Francis Labour has warmly welcomed the Tata announcement of major investment of £800 million in Wales over the next five years.
Dr Francis said
‘This is a great vote of confidence in the Port Talbot plant, its workforce, unions and management.’
Dr Francis added
‘This may well be the best news since the opening of the plant in that it is not only new investment but comes following the new blast furnace and the upgrading of the new steel-making shop.’
Dr Francis concluded
‘The ongoing seismic surveys by Tata to confirm the scale of a potential Margam New Mine may mean even greater security over the next two or three decades. All this is excellent news from Tata in providing quality well paid jobs for local communities, alongside Tata’s research and development commitment to Swansea University’s Second campus, also within the Aberavon constituency.’
