MMP supports National Celebrate Breastfeeding Week

23rd July 2008

Dr Hywel Francis and his wife Mair were happy to give support to parents, mums-to-be, community groups, health visitors and midwives from the Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot areas in the Port Talbot event that celebrated this year's National Breastfeeding Awareness Week.

Dr Francis said,

'I pay tribute to the multi-disciplinary working in partnership which is the key to the success of the support groups for mums and mums-to-be. It is important for these groups to meet regularly to discuss lifestyle and health topics such as smoking cessation and healthy eating. They are a great support to breastfeeding.

Dr Hywel Francis, and his wife Mair are big supporters of breastfeeding and have seen the benefits given to their own children, and Dr Francis said:

"Breastfeeding improved the quality of life for our son Sam, who had Down's Syndrome. He was a frail little baby but breastfeeding him saved his life and got him though his first year."
