Press Release

Aberavon MP Keen to Help Tackle Problems Faced by Mobile Phone Users

19th May 2009

Local MP, Dr Hywel Francis is working with new consumer rights champion, ‘Consumer Focus’ to challenge problems encountered by mobile phone users.

Hywel Francis said,

"Almost all of us now carry a mobile phone. Whilst mobile phones bring tremendous benefits to our lives, complaint statistics show many people experience problems with using mobiles"

A new consultation paper launched by Consumer Focus, called ‘Mobile: What’s the Problem?’ asks consumers to reveal the difficulties they come across. This is in response to figures released by the Government helpline ‘Consumer Direct’ in January showing that nearly 66,000 complaints have been registered in the last two years.

Hywel Francis said,

"Residents in my Aberavon constituency who have had such difficulties now have the opportunity to voice their opinions with the help of consumer rights champion, Consumer Focus"

The Consultation Paper can be viewed online at www.consumerfocus.org.uk/mobilephones and hard copies can be requested by calling 020 7799 7900. Comments can be emailed to [email protected]

Consumer Focus will use the responses it receives to set the priorities of a programme of campaigning and advocacy work around mobile phones.

The closing date to respond to the Consumer Focus consultation is 23rd June 2009.
