Aberavon MP welcomes local Olympic success

28th January 2009

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis who is chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee has congratulated Rhino Doors of Port Talbot on winning an Olympic contract.

Dr Francis said,

'As chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee I was pleased to initiate the inquiry into the potential benefits of the Olympics and Paralympics for Wales.'

'I am glad the Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell was told yesterday of our disappointment that the Afan Valley would not get the Mountain Bike Competitions but noted that it was not part of the original bid.'

'I was delighted a local company, Rhino Doors of Port Talbot, has won a valuable Olympic contract. It is early days yet and I am hopeful that more contracts will be won by Welsh companies.'

'I am especially keen to have Olympic and Paralympic training camps in Wales including mountain bike teams in the Afan Valley. I will continue to campaign for that. I am pleased that the whole Australian Paralympic Team will be based in the Cardiff-Newport area and I am sure more will follow on other parts of Wales.'
