Press Release

Port Talbot Police Station to Remain Open Say MP and AM

27th June 2011

Aberavon’s MP Hywel Francis and AM David Rees have, following a high-level meeting with Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias, received a reassurance that Port Talbot Police Station will not close.

In a statement following the meeting Dr Francis and Mr Rees said,

“We expressed our concerns to Chief Superintendent Mathias about the scale and pace of the cuts locally but placed on record our recognition that these cuts had been imposed by the UK Conservative-led Government and appreciated that the local police were engaged in full and open consultation with the public.”

“We were reassured that the main station in Port Talbot would remain operational and local policing would continue to be provided from the station. Moreover, access throughout the locality will be achieved in new and different ways.”

Dr Francis and Mr Rees added,

“Chief Superintendent Mathias informed us that he would provide full information on front-line policing shortly. We agreed with Chief Superintendent Mathias that we should all work together in partnership with South Wales Police and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to reassure local communities that we will all work to maintain and improve public safety.”
