MP honours Richard Burton

15th November 2012

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis recently spoke of the importance of remembering and honouring Richard Burton whom he called Wales’ greatest actor.

Dr Francis said

‘I was honoured to be asked to cut the ribbon at the new memorial flower bed to commemorate the life of Richard Burton which has been beautifully designed by the children of Eastern School which the great actor attended in the 1930s.

This flowerbed located in Taibach’s Talbot Memorial Park is part of the new Richard Burton Trail through Taibach. At the event I emphasized the importance of the Trail in recognising all the places which influenced Richard Burton’s early life – his family home, his schools, his chapels, the Co-op where he worked, the youth club and the rugby club.

I also pay tribute to the Groundwork Trust, the Friends of the Talbot Memorial Park and Swansea University and Dyffryn School for their contributions to the Memorial and the Trail.’
